Under the Birch Hill there is a well with excellent water
The inconspicuous well can be found at a distance of about 500 m as the crow flies from the main road through the Třítrubecký valley, on the north-western slope of Birch Hill (785 m), in a deserted romantic place. Above the well, from a group of beech trees, in good weather there is a nice view across the valley to the opposite wooded hillside.
I know over fifty wells in Brdy. Some of them are without a shelter, just temporarily made of stones, others are maintained, with a wooden, sometimes even stone shelter, often with an inscription and a year.
The water in the Brda springs is usually good, refreshing and sometimes excellent, but it is advisable to check the surroundings for objects that could contaminate the water before using the spring. Experienced visitors are advised to carry a tested water filter. When travelling for several days, the consumption of drinking water for direct consumption and food preparation is not insignificant, so knowledge of the wells along the planned route is quite important.
Perhaps the best way to find the Pod Březovým vrchem well is to follow the blue trail from Strasice past the Třítrubecký Chateau. After four kilometres, the blue trail ends at the Třítrubecký meadow (formerly the Třítrubecká hájovna, now a water reservoir). The green trail leading from the Crown (832 m) ends here, and the red trail winding from Kočka (789 m) to Dlouhé vrch (775 m) also passes here. This time we will take the yellow trail from here towards Březová vrch.
After less than two kilometres, we will find the fountain Pod Březovým vrchem at a short marked turn-off. The fountain is hidden in a small valley, above which you cannot miss a group of sprawling beech trees. The view of the opposite south-western slopes of the Crown is partially obscured by mature trees. At the time of my visit, the well was a bit run down and overgrown, but the water was excellent. Around the well and especially below it is a large wetland whose water drains into the Třítrubecký Brook.
