6 best places to cool off in summer
If you decide to spend the summer in Příbram, every bit of shade will come in handy during the warm days. However, there are plenty of places in Příbram where you can wait out the hot weather.
1. Outdoor pool of the aquapark
We can't start anywhere else. Whether you want to go for a good swim or just refresh yourself, you can't go wrong by visiting the outdoor area of the Příbram Aquapark - the pool with eight swimming lanes and a length of 50 metres is simply ideal. When you get tired of the water, just pull out a towel or blanket, spread it out on one of the many grassy areas and read your favourite book. The outdoor pool is always open depending on the weather, so we recommend checking the current situation before visiting on the website or on Facebook.
2. Novák
The Novák Pond area has come to life in recent years and has become one of the most vibrant places in Pribram. The somewhat forgotten, muddy pond has now become a modern sports and recreation area. Refreshing yourself in the natural swimming pool is only a fraction of what you can do on a warm day at Novák: you can sunbathe on the sunny meadows, relax in the shade of the willow alleys or take the adventurous footbridge to the island with a gazebo. On the sandy beach, you'll feel like you're at the seaside, and while you're lounging under an umbrella, your kids will have fun on the water playground or the air trampoline. By the way, entry is free.
3. Ice rink
Don't even know where your ice skates ended up? Wrong. The sports facilities of the city of Příbram regularly announce dates for public skating in the summer. So when winter asks what you did in the summer, you can have a very good answer ready. We recommend keeping an eye on theice rink's websitefor up-to-date information and possible dates .
4. Svatá Hora
The Czech Republic's most important Marianpilgrimage site begs to be visited on summer days. You can climb the St. Mary's Mountain stairs, although you may get a bit sweaty on the way. When you find yourself at the top, in the cool cloisters, stop for a moment and look above you. If you still don't feel like leaving the basilica, visit the newly renovated cellars. You'll learn what the Jesuits originally used them for and what artifacts have been found there. You will also find shade in the nearby St. Mary's Orchard or Toufar's Meadow. Can you think of a more ideal way to end such a summer walk than with a picnic?
5. Mining Museum Příbram
A safe bet. Even in the hottest heat, the temperature in the underground of the Příbram Mining Museum will not exceed ten degrees. You can cool off on the water floor, the so-called Wasserlauf, which was part of the water system of the Breslau mines. Along the way, you will see waterwheel chambers, historical quarries and ore chimneys; most of them were built between the 16th and 19th centuries. You will also look at the first floor of the Prokop Mine, the deepest shaft of the Březohorské district (1600 m). You will also have a pleasant time in the underground of the Drkolnov mine, where there is a large water wheel with a diameter of 12.4 metres. You can ride into the mine via a 50-metre slide.
6. Brdy
A landscape of solitude and silence in the middle of Bohemia. Here you will find hundreds of paved and unpaved, marked and unmarked forest paths and trails, rocky outcrops, clear wells and streams, large water bodies, striking peaks and forgotten valleys. The Central Brdy Mountains are an undeveloped mountain range, long abandoned by the original village communities, closed off for decades as a military area. The endless forests will offer you a pleasant refuge on warm summer days. Take inspiration from tips and tours on the Brdy and Podbrdsko Tourist Area website or just get lost for a while and venture into the unknown - Brdy will reward you.
